Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Stephane Dion is making an introductory visit to Singapore from 8 to 9 April 2016 at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.

During their meeting, the Ministers reaffirmed the warm and friendly relations between Singapore and Canada and discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation. Minister Balakrishnan welcomed Canada’s interest in strengthening its engagement of the region. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments including climate change.

Minister Dion also called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Minister Dion and PM Lee noted the long-standing partnership between Singapore and Canada. Both countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2015. Minister Dion and PM Lee had a discussion on regional and international developments, including the prospects of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Minister Dion also met Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli this afternoon. Minister Dion will depart Singapore on 9 April 2016.
