Number of drunk drivers decreases by 41 percent in Kyrgyzstan

After the entry into force of new fines for traffic violations, the number of drunk drivers decreased by 41 percent in Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

«From March 8 to the present day, 423 drunk drivers have been detected in the republic. At least 800 violators were detected last year over the same period. The reason is the toughening of penalties. Previously, drivers for such a violation could only get a fine of 17,500 soms, according to the new rules, violators are deprived of a driver’s license for one year, in case of a repeated violation — for three years with temporary seizure of the vehicle,» the statement says.

Kyrgyzstan has tightened the requirements for drivers since March 8. They apply to those who get behind the wheel in a state of intoxication.
