Number of oncology patients increases in Azerbaijan

Number of people suffering from oncological diseases is growing in Azerbaijan, as all over the world,” said Specialist-expert of Ministry of Health, oncologist Azad Karimli, APA reports.

According to him, there were 54,403 registered oncology patients in relevance with the 2020 report:

“In total 11,595 people were registered as primary oncological patients in 2020. 4,575 of them were in the first-second stage, 3,876 in the third stage, and 3,144 in the fourth stage.

However, it is necessary to look at demographic indicators: the increase in the number of cancers is almost in step with the growth of the country’s population. Where the population density increases, the statistics of not only oncological diseases but also other diseases are growing. If we compare with the statistics of neighboring countries, we can say that there are not so many cancer patients in our republic.

Currently, the situation with the detection of cancer cases is very good. So, if in 2016 the number of cancer patients who live with neoplasms for about five years or more was 17 thousand 166 people, then in 2020 this figure was 19 thousand 766 people,” said Azad Karimli.
