BAKU: The OSCE/ODIHR mission is pleased to cooperate with all interested parties in Azerbaijan’s electoral process, Ditmir Bushati, head of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) mission for observing the upcoming parliamentary election in Azerbaijan, said at today’s press conference in Baku, Trend reports.

He pointed out that the mission arrived in Azerbaijan at the request of the Central Election Commission (CEC).

“In Azerbaijan, there have been more than 10 similar missions during election before, the last of which was during the presidential election. Our current mission has held meetings with the Foreign Ministry and the CEC, and we thank them for their cooperation.

It is known that the OSCE is represented in 57 member countries. Azerbaijan, like other countries, has committed to obligations in the areas of human rights and election observation.

The core team of the current mission consists of 11 people and will mainly operate in Baku. Members of the core team, which wil
l be based in Baku, will also visit other regions of Azerbaijan. On August 6, 28 long-term observers will arrive in Azerbaijan.

They will observe the electoral process at the regional level. There have already been 280 applications from short-term observers who will arrive on election day. They will also observe the process.

Over the past 30 years, we have observed around 400 electoral processes in 57 OSCE member countries. Our observation process covers the period before, during, and after the election. Our mission also includes a media monitoring component. This reflects how the election is covered by the media in terms of quality and quantity.

The assessment of the election campaign is also part of our mission. The goal of the mission is not to interfere; it is of an observational and evaluative nature, and the results of the observation will be published in our report.

The day after the election, on September 2, we’ll hold a press conference to announce our preliminary findings on the election. The is
sue of compliance with the legislation in the electoral process will also be reflected in this statement. The final report will be published later. If necessary, this report will include certain recommendations,” he added.

On June 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the dissolution of the Azerbaijani Parliament of the sixth convocation and the appointment of an extraordinary election to the Azerbaijani Parliament.

The snap parliamentary election is scheduled for September 1, 2024.
