OSCE PA plenary session kicks off in Germany

The 27th Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has kicked off in Berlin, Germany. The meeting brought together some 300 parliamentarians from North America, Europe and Asia. The theme of this year’s Annual Session is “Implementing OSCE Commitments: The Role of Parliaments.” All meetings will be held at the Reichstag Building (seat of the German Bundestag).

The Annual Session will culminate in the adoption of the Berlin Declaration with recommendations to national governments, parliaments and the international community in the fields of political affairs, security, economics, environment and human rights.

Representing the collective voice of the OSCE parliamentarians representing a billion people from Vancouver to Vladivostok, the Declaration helps shape OSCE and national policy. It will be complemented by a number of supplementary items related to OSCE commitments and values.

The Annual Session will also include elections of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly leaders, including committee officers, Vice-Presidents and President.
