President Ilham Aliyev Opens Renovated Garabagh University in Khankendi


KHANKENDI – Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev officially inaugurated the renovated Garabagh University on September 20, marking a significant milestone in the educational and infrastructural development of the region.



According to Trend News Agency, the event in Khankendi revealed extensive renovations at Garabagh University, including the overhaul of academic buildings and the establishment of a new 2.3-hectare park. The university’s main building now boasts an updated facade, modern communication systems, and classrooms equipped for contemporary educational needs. The university’s three buildings house six faculties, offering courses ranging from Pedagogy to Tourism.



The renovations also include the addition of specialized laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Mechatronics, Robotics, and Computer Programming, enhancing the practical learning environment for students. A redesigned university library with a capacity for 200 students features over 6,000 textbooks and an “Electronic Library” system.



President Aliyev’s visit to Garabagh University also highlighted the university’s robust admission results for the 2024/2025 academic year, with 1,104 new students fulfilling 98.5% of the admission plan. Notably, 101 of these students scored over 600 points, and an Olympiad winner was admitted without competition into the Electrical and Electronics Engineering program.



During his visit, President Aliyev met with faculty and students and delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of the university’s opening on the anniversary of the restoration of state sovereignty, linking it to broader national achievements and the historical and ongoing challenges of the region.
