The Yeni Sözler Photography Workshop, which is not content with the slogan “the artist is the witness of the age” and continues their works with the principle of continuing this testimony with aesthetic and technically new expression styles, announced that they will publish an online photography exhibition called Quarantine Diaries. The work, which is announced on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, consists of 62 photographs.
The exhibition, curated by photographer Mehmet Çağlarer, with the work of 17 photographers, will be presented to the audience on 19 February 2021. Curator Mehmet Çağlarer stated that they decided to open an online exhibition due to the restriction of pandemic conditions and their desire to reach more people.
He conveyed that during the Covid-19 pandemic period we are living in, instead of going out to the streets and taking the moments that we will “capture”, they decided to photograph their own state, sometimes with a humorous approach, and sometimes by reflecting the overwhelming feelings of sadness and longing. He added that their principle as “Yeni Sözler Photography Workshop” is that they determine each technical and artistic element by themselves, instead of being passive while producing the photographs.
He stated that the subject / model and the photographer of most of the photographs to be viewed in the exhibition are the same people, because in a sense, they aim to show their “state” during the quarantine days with autoportraits. He informed that this exhibition, which were they created with the help of technology, is not limited to the audience of a hall, but aims to reach much wider geographies and more people, and that due to the prolongation of the pandemic process, the continuation of the online exhibitions with different subjects covering this process will come.
