Russian Paralympic Committee appeals to CAS against ban from Olympics

Russia’s Paralympic Committee (RPC) has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against a decision to ban the team to compete at the Rio Olympics, according to TASS.

“Chairman of the RPC Executive Committee and RPC First Vice-President Pavel Rozhkov has said he sent an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport on August 15 in compliance with an arbitration agreement approved between the RPC and the International Paralympic Committee,” the press office said.

The CAS’s decision on the appeal filed by the Russian Paralympic Committee is expected by August 22 midnight, the press office said.

“The sitting is scheduled for August 21, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro,” the RPC press office said. “The resolutive part of the CAS’s decision will be announced before August 22 midnight.”

The RPC announced on Wednesday night that it had entered an arbitrary deal with the International Paralympic Committee on filing a lawsuit with the Swiss-based CAS against the blanket ban of Russian Paralympians from 2016 Rio.
