Schools in Kyrgyzstan introduce new tool for assessing teaching quality

A new tool for assessing the quality of teaching and learning is being introduced in schools in Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the Ministry of Education and Science reported.

A workshop was reportedly organized to train observers in piloting Pedagogical Practice Observation tool.

«Participants of the workshop discuss and summarize the results of «field» observations in the classroom in 240 schools across the country. The observation took place in each educational institution during the lessons of elementary and high school teachers in the STEM direction. Based on the results, steps will be taken to improve the tool and questionnaires for teachers, parents, administration, which provide additional information on the impact of external factors,» the ministry noted.

Pedagogical Practice Observation is a tool for a comprehensive assessment of the learning process in the classroom, which is built on the basis of an overview of the learning environment and the activities of both the teacher and students during the lesson. When developing the tool, requirements for the activities of the teacher, enshrined in the State Standard, were taken into account. It is piloted by the Ministry of Education and Science under Learning for the Future project funded by the World Bank.
