Significant Progress on Aghdam-Asgaran-Khojaly-Khankendi Highway Development

AGHDAM— The construction of the Aghdam-Asgaran-Khojaly-Khankendi highway is advancing swiftly, marking a major milestone in regional infrastructure development aimed at enhancing connectivity and boosting economic sectors such as agriculture and tourism.

According to Trend News Agency, Mammad Mammadov, a representative of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads, detailed that the highway extends 33.6 kilometers from the 40th kilometer of the Barda-Aghdam route. The project is segmented into varying technical categories to accommodate different traffic volumes and transportation needs. A 12-kilometer portion is being reconstructed to meet second technical category standards with a roadbed width of 15 meters, featuring two lanes and a 7.5-meter carriageway.

Furthermore, Mammadov explained that the larger 21.6-kilometer section adheres to the first technical category, where the roadbed will span 26.5 meters with a carriageway width of 15 meters, divided into four lanes. This section will also include essential infrastructure such as drainage pipes of various diameters, two crossings, and five bridges.

The strategic design of this highway facilitates direct travel to major cities like Khankendi, Shusha, and Lachin from Barda without the need to pass through Aghdam. This route not only simplifies transportation but also plays a crucial role in the broader development plan for the Karabakh region.
