Smartest city Bhubaneswar to develop App for citizens

BHUBANESWAR: With the city inching closer to becoming the smartest city in reality, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is making ‘smart’ moves to provide IT-backed services to the citizens.

Taking a cue from Singapore, the BDA has planned to float a mobile application called ‘Bhubaneswar One’ (App) that will enable citizens to know everything about the city. From locations of the hotels, health care centres and government offices to knowing the status of various online services provided to the citizens. The App is being developed jointly by the BDA and National Informatics Centre Services Inc (Nicsi), a central government-owned department.

The project will be implemented under Smart City Mission and BDA has released Rs 2.49 crore to the Nicsi to develop the software for the App. The BDA is slated to make the App public by June end, BDA sources said.

“Before conceptualizing the App, we had several rounds of discussion with Nicsi. We also scanned the working of Singapore’s App ‘one map’ and got to learn a few intricacies. However, Bhubaneswar One App will be made far more effective,” said BDA planning member Sudhiranjan Mohanty.

The android-based smart phones users can avail the services. The App will have all the features such as search locations, bus, train and flight schedules, programmes in the city, ideal tourist destinations, address of hospitals and doctors, ambulance facilities, parks and playgrounds, library, shopping malls and markets.
