The Law “On the Media” to further worsen the state of journalism – expert

The country’s media community is disappointed with the Parliament’s decision to pass the draft Law “On the Media” unchanged. This is the common opinion of independent journalists and media experts.

“The Law passed today remains as it is even despite our serious protests,” media lawyer Alesker Mammadli told Turan news agency.

“The amendments made are not of a principled nature. At the same time, up to 40 amendments proposed by us are ignored. This will further worsen the state of journalism in Azerbaijan,” he said.

According to Mammadli, journalists will have to appeal more frequently to courts for violations of their rights and then seek support in the European Court of Human Rights.
