The wife of a political prisoner reports provocations against her husband in the police

Nurana ashurova, the wife of activist Samir Ashurov, who was arrested after being expelled from Germany, announced a provocation against her husband at the Nizami district police department. On her facebook page she wrote that last Monday her husband was transferred from the Shuvalan pre-trial detention center to a temporary detention facility (TDF) without explaining the reasons.

In the TDF, another man who said that he had also been expelled from Germany, was placed in Samir’s cell. “This person knew well the names of Azerbaijani political emigrants in Germany. The man treated Samir to Coca-Cola, and Samir’s health deteriorated sharply. Samir suffers from heart disease and after cola a strong heartbeat began. Samir’s cellmate, who was arrested for drugs, said that “pati” (a synthetic drug) was probably mixed into the drink. When using this drug, a person becomes controllable and information can be obtained from him. It is likely that Samir was given this so that he would “talk” and give out information about activists in Germany. But they did not take into account that Samir had a heart problem, and after the deterioration of his health, the police were forced to call an ambulance. After that, they quickly returned to the pre-trial detention center,” Ashurova said.

According to her, the person who came to S. Ashurov’s cell unexpectedly suddenly reminded of the story of the spread of intimate footage of the opposition leader’s daughter Jamil Hasanli. “I want you to remember this,” the cellmate added.

Obviously, Samir is subjected to psychological pressure, and they threaten his family, “Ashurova continued. She said that her husband told her about all of the above at a meeting on July 28 in the Shuvalan pre-trial detention center.

“Usually we talk on the phone through the glass. This time the phones didn’t work, we had to shout to hear each other. Contrary to the usual, during the meeting, an employee of the pre-trial detention center was assigned to Samir. There was a feeling that they wanted to prevent Samir from reporting the incident to the Nizami police,” the wife said. The attempts to get comments in the Ministry of Internal Affairs were futile.

*Ashurov was expelled from Germany on March 29, and 20 days later he was detained by the police in Baku. He was accused of inflicting a knife wound on a certain Elshan Nabiev (Article 126.2.4 of the Criminal Code – Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm out of hooligan motives). He faces 6 to 11 years in prison.

On July 21, Ashurov was charged under another Article of the Criminal Code – 221.3 (hooliganism committed with the use of a weapon or an object used as a weapon) of the Criminal Code. Human rights activists recognized Ashurov as a “political prisoner”.
