On April 21, the trial in the case of a group of activists arrested for participating in a street demonstration in support of the army on July 14-15, 2020 continued in the COUrtof Appeal chaired by the the judge of the Sabail region, Agamaly Gafarov.
Among the defendants are four members of the Popular Front Party, two members of the Muslim Unity Movement and six others.
During today’s trial, testimonies of five witnesses and two victims were heard.
According to the defense, testimony from a number of witnesses was obtained in violation of the law (when they were being held at the police station), they petitioned not to take this testimony into account. However, the court rejected the defense’s request. At the end of the meeting, the deputy chairman of the Popular Front Party and one of the defendants, Fuad Gahramanli, informed the journalists about this.
The next trail will take place on April 28.
The defendants are accused of violating public order, property and violence against government officials.
There are 37 accused and 22 victims in this case. In November last year, all the accused were released from arrest under police supervision.
* On July 14, in the evening, a spontaneous demonstration of many thousands began in Baku with a demand to start a campaign for the liberation of Karabakh. The procession lasted all night and ended only early in the morning of 15 July. Some of the protesters entered the parliament building and damaged the premises.
