Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to Strengthen Energy Sector Ties


ASHGABAT: Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are set to enhance their cooperation in the energy sector, focusing on natural gas supplies and renewable energy development. This decision emerged during discussions held between the two countries’ energy ministers at the ‘Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2024’ conference in Ashgabat.

According to Trend News Agency, the meeting between Turkmenistan’s Minister of Energy, Annageldi Saparov, and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov, highlighted the potential for collaboration between the two nations, both rich in hydrocarbon resources. Discussions centered on joint projects to expand cooperation in natural gas supplies and the development of renewable energy sources, as well as the implementation of innovative technologies.

The ministers underscored the importance of continuing dialogue to explore new methods to boost the efficiency and resilience of their respective energy systems. In addition to traditional energy resources, they also considered strateg
ies for transitioning to greener energy sources, a priority for both countries.

This meeting represents a significant step toward reinforcing the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, with goals of stable economic development and enhanced energy security in Central Asia. Previously, Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Batyr Amanov, announced plans to increase natural gas supplies to Uzbekistan, reflecting the ongoing commitment to energy cooperation.
