The staff of the UN Office in Azerbaijan has completed a three-day visit to the conflict-affected regions of Barda, Agdam and Tartar. The main purpose of the visit was to discuss the work done by the UN in these regions, current humanitarian needs, as well as the coordination of activities.
The delegation told AZERTAC that the participants met with heads of local executive authorities and representatives of communities affected by the conflict.
Following the cessation of hostilities, the UN Office in Azerbaijan has taken urgent measures to meet the critical humanitarian needs of the people temporarily displaced by the conflict. The UN has conducted several missions in close cooperation with the Government of Azerbaijan to identify and prioritize important needs in the areas of food, shelter, hygiene, mine risk education, health care, psychological and social support, and education.
In addition to funding from UN agencies in Azerbaijan, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) has allocated $ 2 million from the United Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) to support humanitarian activities.
