US Welcomes Azerbaijan’s Green Energy Export Initiatives, Blinken Expresses Support in Letter to President Aliyev

WASHINGTON — The United States has expressed its support for Azerbaijan’s initiatives to develop green energy export routes. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken conveyed this sentiment in a recent letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, highlighting the ongoing partnership between the two countries in energy development and sustainability.

According to Trend News Agency, Blinken’s letter was sent on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the “Contract of the Century,” a pivotal agreement that has positioned Azerbaijan as a key energy supplier globally. The letter praised Azerbaijan’s long-standing role as a reliable energy partner and its new commitments to renewable energy and sustainable practices. “It is my pleasure to congratulate you and the people of Azerbaijan on this significant milestone. Your commitment to deploying renewable energy and developing green energy export routes is commendable,” Blinken wrote.

The letter also noted the timing of the anniversary with Azerbaijan’s preparations to host the Conference of the Parties (COP29), underscoring the country’s proactive efforts in the global energy transition. “This year’s commemoration is especially significant as Azerbaijan prepares to host COP29. We welcome your efforts, which have the potential to transform the region and reinforce Azerbaijan’s pioneering role in the energy sector,” Blinken added.

In his communication, Blinken affirmed the United States’ readiness to support Azerbaijan in its transition to green energy and other significant global challenges, emphasizing the potential benefits of strengthened cooperation between the two nations.
