Uzbekistan and Germany Set to Enhance Bilateral Ties with Upcoming High-Level Talks

SAMARKAND—In an effort to boost their multifaceted cooperation, Uzbekistan and Germany are poised to hold high-level discussions during German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s official visit on September 15-16.

According to Trend News Agency, Chancellor Scholz’s visit, initiated by an invitation from Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will focus on several key areas of collaboration. The talks in Samarkand aim to broaden trade, economic, technological, and investment-financial partnerships. Furthermore, both nations are set to deepen their cooperation with major German companies and banks and will continue to engage actively in sectors such as labor migration, ecology, education, healthcare, culture, and tourism.

During this visit, President Mirziyoyev and Chancellor Scholz will also engage with business leaders from both countries in a joint meeting aimed at enhancing commercial ties. This engagement comes at a time when bilateral trade between the two nations has seen a significant downturn, with Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover with Germany totaling $506.3 million in the first half of 2024, marking an 84.2 percent decrease from the previous year’s $932.9 million.

Both leaders are expected to discuss regional cooperation and potential strategies to revitalize economic exchanges and partnerships across multiple sectors.
