World Bank to continue helping Kyrgyzstan restore financial growth

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov met with the World Bank Regional Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani. Press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.

The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including the current state of ongoing projects.

Akylbek Japarov noted that the National Development Program of Kyrgyzstan until 2026 was approved two years ago, where «a person with his or her needs, interests and potential is at the forefront of all reforms.»

«In the water supply and disposal sector, investment projects are being carried out in 232 villages and 27 cities of the republic for a total of $468.2 million. To date, construction work has been completed in 52 villages, more than 128,000 people have received access to clean drinking water. In this sector, ARIS is successfully helping the development of local communities in rural areas and solving many social and economic problems,» he stressed, thanking the World Bank for supporting the water supply sector.

The head of the Cabinet noted that the Kyrgyz Republic has significant water and hydropower resources. «Given the experience and expertise of the World Bank in major projects, I would like to propose to take an active part in the implementation of power projects,» he said.

The World Bank Vice President Antonella Bassani noted that the World Bank, along with other international financial institutions, will continue to support developing countries, including Kyrgyzstan, in restoring their financial stability and economic growth.
