“The U.S. does not want to stay away from the restoration process of Karabakh,” said chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee Ziyafat Asgarov on Azerbaijan Television’s “Main topic” program.
“The U.S. knows very well that Azerbaijan is the leading country of the South Caucasus, and new realities have emerged after the war. Azerbaijan dictates those new realities. The main purpose of Blinken’s call is that the United States wants to discuss this issue with Azerbaijan. The U.S. does not want to stay away from the restoration process of Karabakh. Despite the fact that during the war, the U.S. stayed aside, it realizes Azerbaijan’s geostrategical importance and is interested in the intensification of the relations. It shows that the U.S. highly appreciates Azerbaijan in terms of regional security,” the MP highlighted.
At the same time, he noted that the chaotic situation is present in Armenia before the elections, the tense struggle is going on between the Karabakh clan and the current government: “However, both Kocharyan and Sargisyan are the figures thrown to the history’s trash bin. Their chance to come to power is zero. The Armenian people know about their deeds well. Kocharyan and Sargsyan are guilty of Armenia’s present situation. If the Minsk Group wants to continue its activity, they must demand the handing over of the mine maps to Azerbaijan and try to ensure peace in the region. They should put pressure on Armenia so that they get rid of their revanchist wishes.”
The MP also touched upon the restoration of Karabakh: “After the construction works, the Armenians living in the Karabakh region can reintegrate into Azerbaijan’s political, social and economic systems. If the Minsk Group is eager to continue its activity, it has to contribute to the reintegration process and should make Armenia recognize Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of its borders.”
