France to allocate 400.000 euros to Azerbaijan for clearing its territory from mines

France will allocate 400.000 euros to Azerbaijan for clearing of its territory from mines.

“Another area in which international cooperation is needed is mine clearance, so that the internally displaced persons might return to their land. The territories of Karabakh that require mine clearance are huge. Therefore, I was pleased to officially inform ANAMA (the Azerbaijani Agency for Mine Clearance of Territories) of France’s readiness to donate 400,000 euros for mine clearance this year,” French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zachary Gross wrote on his Twitter account.

Earlier, France allocated more than half a million to the Red Cross to search for nearly 4.000 Azerbaijani citizens who went missing during the first Karabakh war.

According to the Azerbaijani authorities, since November 10, 2020, 7 servicemen and 23 civilians have been killed by mines in the liberated territories, 91 soldiers and 37 civilians injured.

From November 10 last year to August 31 this year, 9,406 anti-personnel mines, 4,092 anti-tank mines and 10,529 unexploded ordnance were discovered and neutralized. 45,755,242 square meters (4,575 ha) of the territory were cleared of mines and ammunition.

According to the ANAMA, 14.000 square km of territory have yet to be cleared.
