Azerbaijan’s Greco-Roman wrestler Ziya Babashov clinched a gold medal in the men’s 63 kg final bout at the U-23 European Championship 2024 in Baku.
Babashov claimed the medal as he edged past Moldovan Vitaly Eremenko 3:2.
Another Azerbaijani wrestler Rashad Mammadov bagged bronze in the men’s 55kg weight class as he toppled Ukrainian Ivan Stefanski 7:0.
Two Azerbaijani athletes Khasay Hasanli (77kg) and Lachin Valiyev (87kg) will vie today for gold and bronze medals respectively.
Nihad Guluzade (60kg) and Gurban Gurbanov (82kg) enter their final clashes tomorrow.
The tournament will run until May 26.
