Azerbaijani judoka Hidayat Heydarov has cemented his legacy as the greatest judoka after his title win in the 2024 World Judo Championships held in Abu Dhabi, the UAE.

He unleashed his best kick over Japanese Tatsuki Ishihara in the 73kg weight final.

Azerbaijani judokas win 6 medals in Malaga


Azerbaijani judokas have brought home six medals, including 2 golds, from the Junior European Cup 2024 held in Malaga, Spain.

Suleyman Shukurov (81kg) and Kanan Nasibov (+100kg) bagged gold medals for Azerbaijan. Ali Hajizada grabbed silver, while Mahammad Musayev (66kg), Aydin Rzayev (73kg) and Tunjay Shamil (90kg) earned bronze medals.

Baku hosts inauguration of U23 European Championships 2024


An opening ceremony of the U23 European Championships has today been held at the Baku Sports Palace in Baku.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice-President of Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, member of the Executive Committee of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Namig Aliyev welcomed the hosting of such a competition in Azerbaijan.

Namig Aliyev recalled the triumphs of Azerbaijani athletes, who booked a spot for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games in the classification tournaments held in Baku and Istanbul.

Karl-Martin Dittmann, Bureau Member and President of the UWW European Council, expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan for hosting the landmark competition.

The event continued with a concert program.

The championships, to welcome about 400 athletes from 32 countries, will run until May 24.

Azerbaijani judoka advances to final of 2024 World Championships in UAE


Azerbaijan’s judoka Hidayat Heydarov advanced to the final of the 2024 World Judo Championships in Abu-Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.

He defeated German Igor Wandtke in the men’s 73 kg weight class.

Heydarov will face the winner of Tatsuki Ishihara (Japan) vs Ankhzaya Lavjargal (Mongolia) encounter.

The tournament will run until May 23.
