S. Korea to lift mask mandate for public transport

South Korea plans to take a step towards lifting nearly all remaining coronavirus restrictions by ending its mandate on face coverings for public transport starting next week, Yonhap reported, citing Vice Interior Minister Han Chang-seob, APA reports citing Teletrader. The requirement to wear a mask will no longer be in place as of Monday, with the exception of hospitals, pharmacies, and other susceptible facilities. Pharmacies located in open public areas like bargain stores or train stations will be exempt from the rule, according to Han. He, however, noted that mask-wearing is still “actively recommended for public transportation users during rush hour, high-risk groups, and those having symptoms.” The decision comes after the nation recorded a drop in new COVID-19 cases.
