President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received president of the Council of Higher Education of the Republic of Turkey Erol Ozvar.

Erol Ozvar extended Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s greetings to the head of state. President Ilham Aliyev thanked for Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s greetings and asked Erol Ozvar to extend his greetings to the Turkish President.

Erol Ozvar expressed his condolences to the head of state over the deaths of the servicemen in a helicopter crash. President Ilham Aliyev thanked for the condolences.

The sides hailed the successful development of friendly and brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey in all areas, underlining the role of educational cooperation in strengthening bilateral ties.

They expressed confidence that Erol Ozvar’s visit would contribute to the expansion of bilateral relations in this field.

The sides exchanged views on prospects for educational cooperation and a number of other issues, including the establishment of a joint Azerbaijani-Turkish university.

The head of state then was presented with a keepsake.

Transport infrastructure in Karabakh to turn Azerbaijan into logistics hub between Central Asia and Europe – CAERC

The opening of the Zangazur corridor, the transport infrastructure under construction and the creation of Alat small economic zone (SEZ) will contribute to transformation of Azerbaijan into a logistics hub between the countries of Central and South Asia and Europe, Analyst of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications (CAERC) Amina Bayramova told Trend.

According to Bayramova, the importance of Karabakh as a logistics center will reduce the costs of supply chains, attract investment, create new jobs, and ensure economic growth.

“Also, this will contribute to the creation of additional production facilities for the export of goods and the integration of Azerbaijan into the world market,” she said.

The expert also stressed that the construction of the Horadiz-Agbend and Barda-Aghdam railway lines, their integration into the existing railway network in Azerbaijan, will increase the logistical importance of Karabakh for the region as a whole.

In addition, Bayramova said the Lachin airport will become the highest located in Azerbaijan, and the process of its construction will be one of the most difficult in the world.

Moreiver, expert noted that the construction of the Horadiz-Jebrail-Zangilan-Agbend highway (a section of the Zangazur corridor), the Victory Road with a length of almost 102 kilometers, the Kalbajar-Lachin highways (72.3 kilometers), Fuzuli-Hadrut (13 kilometers) and Barda- Aghdam (45 kilometers) will expand transport links in the region.

Turkmenistan, Tajikistan to attract small, medium businesses to joint projects

Turkmenistan and Tajikistan will attract small and medium businesses in the implementation of joint projects, Trend reports citing ‘Business Turkmenistan’.

These agreements were reached during the first Business Forum of the countries of Central Asia and South Korea, held in a hybrid format.

The Turkmen side at the forum was represented by the Chairman of the Union of Industrialists and Businessmen of Turkmenistan Dovran Khudayberdiyev. The forum was also attended by the director of the Korean Association of Professional Engineers and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Central Asia.

The meeting parties agreed to attract the small and medium businesses in the implementation of such projects as e-commerce, agribusiness, food security, industrial development, transport and logistics, and investment cooperation in order to develop the export potential of the participating countries and create a stable network of cooperation between businessmen of South Korea and the countries of Central Asia.

The event was organized in order to implement the Memorandum of Understanding between the countries of Central Asia and South Korea on the establishment of the Business Council, signed on June 29, 2020, as well as to expand business contacts between the Central Asian and South Korean business communities.

Azerbaijani Customs Committee exceeds forecast for transfers to state budget in 11M2021

The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee accomplished the forecast on transfers to the state budget by 111.19 percent from January through November 2021, Chairman of the State Customs Committee Safar Mehdiyev said on Twitter, Trend reports.

The amount transferred to the state budget in excess of the forecast via the committee amounted to 396.3 million manat ($233.1 million), Mehdiyev noted.

In 2020, the State Customs Committee accomplished the forecast for budget revenues by 102.83 percent.

The revenues from the committee amounted to 3.9 billion manat ($2.3 billion) compared to the forecast of 3.8 billion manat ($2.2 billion).

Azerbaijan Banks Association, VISA talk strategic plans

Azerbaijan Banks Association (ABA) and VISA Inc. discussed strategic plans, Trend reports with reference to ABA.

The plans were discussed during the meeting between the VISA Inc. international card organization and the leadership of the ABA. The meeting was attended by the regional manager of Visa Inc. Kristina Dorosh, ABA President Zakir Nuriyev, ABA Executive Director Yunus Abdulov, and other representatives.

During the meeting, Zakir Nuriyev noted that appropriate work is underway to establish innovative financial and banking services in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, strategic plans have been identified and the active participation of organizations related to the financial and banking sector will be ensured.

In addition, Nuriyev highly appreciated the cooperation between the ABA and VISA and thanked the organization for its efforts in the development of digital payments, bringing new innovative payment solutions to the market.

He also noted that VISA took an active part in numerous events of the ABA in the financial and banking sector and that it is necessary to continue measures, especially those related to the security of banking services. He also highlighted the support provided by the payment systems and digital banking expert group within the ABA.

Kristina Dorosh stated that VISA Inc. is ready to cooperate with ABA in its annual international events and will continue to organize seminars and webinars in this direction together with ABA, taking into account the importance of security issues, especially in the field of digital banking services.

She noted the “Payment Systems and Digital Banking Expert Group” as a reliable platform for discussing digital payments and innovative payment solutions in the country. Dorosh also added that they will continue to actively participate in the activities of the group and support the work done by banks to develop financial and banking infrastructure in Azerbaijan, as well as to introduce innovative digital payment solutions.

ABA was founded in 1990 by commercial banks. The main purpose of ABA is to protect the interests of affiliates, help them meet the needs for various business services, and coordinate their activities.

Currently, ABA members are 26 banks and five non-banking organizations.

Azerbaijan’s Express-C auctions its bonds through Baku Stock Exchange

An auction on placement of bonds of Azerbaijan’s Express-C LLC has been held at the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE), Trend reports on Dec. 2.

At the stock exchange, 2,000 bonds with a par value of 1,000 manat ($588.2) each, worth two million manat ($1.18 million), were placed with a maturity of two years and an annual rate of 12.5 percent.

The company placed the bonds at the BSE for the first time.
