Two killed as apartment ceiling collapses in Northern India

The initial reports revealed that the ceiling of the sixth-floor, where renovation work was going on, came crashing down to the ground floor of the 17-storey apartment, APA reports citing Sputnik.

While majority of the flats were empty, some people are feared buried under the debris.

A massive rescue operation is underway after an apartment ceiling collapsed, leading to the death of two people in Gurugram, a city in the Indian state of Haryana, on Thursday night. Several others are still feared to be trapped under the debris and a rescue operation is ongoing.

Visuals of the disaster have surfaced on the internet showcasing the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force teams carrying out the rescue operation along with their sniffer dogs.

Gurugram’s Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav initially said: “A total of three are [stuck inside], of which one woman from the first floor is dead. We have recovered her body. The other two women on the second floor have still not been seen. The man on the same floor is trapped.”

Armenia tries to distort the agreement on the visits of UNESCO missions – Azerbaijan’s MFA

As it is known at the meeting held in a video format on February 4, of the current year, with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, President of France Emanuel Macron, President of the European Union Charles Michele and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, an agreement was reached about the UNESCO to send separate missions to Azerbaijan and Armenia, the press service of Azerbaijani MFA told APA.

According to the Ministry, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs tries to distort the agreement reached on the visits of the UNESCO missions to Azerbaijan and Armenia. We condemn Armenian MFA for once again avoiding the commitments of this state.

“Regarding the UNESCO technical mission to be implemented in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani side welcomed the implementation of this mission from the first day. All preparation works for the mission were agreed between Azerbaijan and UNESCO in a bilateral format.

For more than 20 years, the Republic of Azerbaijan has repeatedly made appeals to UNESCO to implement this mission and sent numerous letters in this regard. Unfortunately, such a mission was not carried out, and the only reason was Armenia. As an organization, UNESCO itself mentioned this fact in its report for 2005. Thus, emphasizing that the Azerbaijani lands are under the occupation of Armenia, UNESCO acknowledged that the visit was prevented by Armenia.

As for the UNESCO mission to Armenia, the Azerbaijani side has repeatedly brought to the attention of UNESCO and the international community the destruction of the cultural heritage belonging to the Azerbaijani people in Armenia. Our country’s NGOs have recently submitted detailed information on the destruction to UNESCO. These reports included photographs and other evidence of the wreckage.

We believe that it is necessary to send a mission to Armenia to investigate the facts submitted by Azerbaijan to UNESCO. We hope that Armenia, will create conditions for the organization of the mission unlike its previous policy of preventing international missions from visiting the occupied territories,” said the Ministry.
