Information of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pej?inovi? Buri?

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Marija Pejcinovic Buric, during her visit to Azerbaijan.

The sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov reviewed Azerbaijan’s 21-year cooperation with the Council of Europe, noting that 65 agreements have been signed and ratified so far, and 7 additional agreements have been signed. The importance of reciprocal cooperation within the previous Action Plans between the Council of Europe and Azerbaijan, as well as the new Action Plan for 2022-2025, developed on the basis of Azerbaijan’s needs and recommendations of the Council of Europe and forming a common framework for cooperation, were emphasized.

Secretary General Marija Pejcinovic Buric said she was visiting the country for the first time in the capacity of Secretary General of the Council of Europe and met with the President within the framework of this visit. The Secretary General noted with satisfaction that she would attend the inaugural meeting of the Council of Europe-Azerbaijan Action Plan 2022-2025 during her visit.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov briefed the Council of Europe official on the post-conflict situation in the region, the implementation of trilateral statements and steps taken by Azerbaijan in this regard, the delimitation process, as well as the restoration and reconstruction work in the liberated territories. The Minister spoke about the serious consequences of the landmine threat in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, as well as the humanitarian demining work carried out by the Government of Azerbaijan. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe was informed that Armenia has not provided any information on the fate of about 4,000 Azerbaijanis who have been missing since the early 1990s. It was noted that the mass graves found in the liberated territories testify to the systematic and deliberate killing of Azerbaijanis by Armenia and the concealment of information about it.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov shared Azerbaijan’s views on the future development of the region. It was stressed that the normalization of relations based on the principles of international law, including the delimitation of borders and the opening of all communications, the full implementation of the provisions of the trilateral statements are important to ensure peace, stability and progress in the region.

The sides discussed topical issues of the regional and international agenda, the situation in and around Ukraine, as well as other issues of mutual interest.

Updated Displacement survey: Ukrainian refugees and third-country nationals – Displacement patterns, needs and Intentions survey, 9-27 March 2022

Since 24 February 2022, increasing numbers of refugees and third-country nationals entering the Republic of Moldova have been registered amid the war in Ukraine. As of 27 March, Moldovan authorities have reported 381,448 arrivals from Ukraine, of whom 346,735 are Ukrainian refugees and 34,713 third-country nationals.

This report is based on a survey of displacement patterns, needs and intentions commissioned by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with UN Women. Face-to-face surveys were conducted by trained enumerators from CBS-AXA Research at entry, exit, transit points and accommodation centres with Ukrainian refugees and third-country nationals. Data were collected and stored through a mobile application.

This report presents a short analysis based on the 4,384 interviews conducted between 9 and 27 March 2022, out of which 3,822 were interviewed at four Moldovan border crossing points – Otaci and Palanca (at entry), and Leuseni and Giurgiulesti (at exit) – as well as in three transit locations – MoldExpo, the Ukrainian Consulate, and a bus station in Chisinau, the capital city. Additionally, 562 interviews were conducted in temporary placement centres and private accommodations, using an extended questionnaire based on the Displacement Tracking Matrix tool.

Zakharova commented on Biden’s call to organize a tribunal in Ukraine

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on US President Joe Biden’s call to organize a tribunal on Ukraine, advised Washington to start with proceedings on Yugoslavia and Iraq, APA reports citing RIA Novosti.

“Great idea – let them start with the bombing of Yugoslavia and the occupation of Iraq. You can still find the main directors of productions in Srebrenica,” she added.

“And, of course, the trade-in organs in Kosovo under the guise of American officials. As soon as they finish, I can start nuclear bombing of Japan right away,” the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry concluded.

The number of infected people has fallen sharply

Only six cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in Azerbaijan over the past day. At the same time, 17 people recovered and one person died, according to the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers.

The total number of infected people in the country was 792,067, of which 782,040 were cured and 9,698 died.

At present, the number of active patients is 329 people. Last day, 2,106 tests were carried out.

Biden calls for new sanctions against Russia

“We have to continue to provide Ukraine with the weapons they need to continue the fight,” noted US President Joe Biden, APA reports citing Guardian.

“We have to gather all the detail so this can be an actual – have a war crimes trial,” Biden said.

Biden also said he would seek more sanctions after reported atrocities in Ukraine, but his comments to reporters did not go as far as calling the actions genocide.
