ASHGABAT: Turkmenistan will continue to constructively engage in the construction of highways in the country for the development of international transport corridors, Trend reports.

This was stated by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the opening ceremony of the Tejen-Mary section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat high-speed highway.

According to him, Turkmenistan’s favorable location in the region provides a significant advantage in the formation of an international transport and logistics corridor, the integration of the domestic transportation sector into the global system, and the expansion of trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties with partner countries.

Furthermore, the head of state stated that improving Turkmenistan’s transportation system will have a significant impact on the country’s economic dynamics.

Meanwhile, the Tejen – Mary highway is the second section of the large-scale, three-stage construction of the 600-kilometer Ashgabat – Turkmenbashi highway, which began in 20
19.

The first section, with a length of about 250 kilometers (Ashgabat – Tejen was commissioned in October 2021 and is currently being successfully used.

Azerbaijan’s non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and residents of Garabagh and East Zangazur have sent an open letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

‘Dear leadership and members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee,

We, representatives of Azerbaijani NGOs and residents of Garabagh and East Zangazur, are deeply concerned by media reports about the nomination of Ruben Vardanyan as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize and want to bring to your attention the resolute position of the Azerbaijani public on this issue.

Ruben Vardanyan’s life and activities have been an insult to the ideals and values guiding the Nobel Peace Prize, and even the mere mention of these names together can tarnish the authority of this highest award and mislead the international community.

Ruben Vardanyan is facing serious accusations as a criminal element who amassed wealth through money laundering and financing terrorism. For some time, he was one of the leading figures of the separatist regime – a milita
ry junta established in the territories of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenia – which later dissolved itself.

During that time, his arrival in Garabagh with the intention of creating obstacles to peace, as well as his provocative statements, made the situation increasingly tense, as he attempted to disrupt the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Disregarding international legal norms, Vardanyan threatened the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, advocated for the preservation of a ‘gray zone’ in the territory of Azerbaijan, prevented the return of Azerbaijani IDPs to Khankandi, Khojaly, and other residential areas.

For people like Ruben Vardanyan, nothing is more sacred than dirty money. It is not ruled out that one of the main motives that brought him to Garabagh at that time was to illegally exploit Azerbaijan’s gold and copper-molybdenum deposits in these areas by remobilizing the leftovers of the Armenian army in Garabagh .

Ruben Vardanyan was detained by
the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Azerbaijan in September 2023 while attempting to escape from Garabagh . He is charged under articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan for financing terrorism, participating in the creation and operation of armed groups not provided for by legislation, and illegally crossing the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At present, investigative and operational measures are still underway.

There are serious allegations regarding Ruben Vardanyan’s shady financial activities in many countries. In 2019, the OCCRP (Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project) published an investigative report on Vardanyan’s illegal activities called ‘Troika Laundromat’. This report exposed a complex network of illegal activities involving Ruben Vardanyan. In March 2019, members of the European Parliament wrote a letter to the President of the European Commission, stating the need to impose sanctions against the former owner of Troika Dialog, Ruben Vardanyan,
and other persons associated with the ‘offshore system’ of Troika Dialog. The letter was signed by 22 European MPs representing United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany and other countries.

Ruben Vandanyan, an international financial fraudster who built a business empire with dirty money, has the blood of innocent people on his hands. He was involved in financing terrorism wherever he wanted to make a profit by illegal means.

The Nobel Peace Prize embodies the spirit of peace, reconciliation and international cooperation that Alfred Nobel wanted to promote. We urge the Norwegian Nobel Committee to take into account the clear and decisive position of the Azerbaijani public regarding Ruben Vardanyan, a person accused of numerous crimes.

BAKU: The Caspian ports of Olya (a port near Astrakhan, Russia) and Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan) have intensified cooperation in the transshipment of cargo along the North-South International Transport Corridor (ITC), Trend reports.

“For the first time, the port of Olya received a cargo of tomatoes from Turkmenistan (40 cars) via the North-South ITC and, in return, sent a cargo of dairy products and consumer goods to Turkmenbashi. This is the first such use of the maritime segment of the North-South corridor to deliver the first shipment of agro-industrial products,” the information notes.

Previously, over the past five years, the port of Olya has only accepted construction materials (from Iran and the UAE), as well as cars and polypropylene, and in fact, for the first time, began to accept agricultural products.

To note, the North-South ITC, established in 2000, is a multimodal corridor using different modes of transportation to deliver goods.

A total of 19 million tons of cargo passed through the North-S
outh ITC in 2023 (an 18 percent increase from 2022).

Experts forecast that transportation may reach 25-30 million tons per year by 2030.

The activity of the joint Turkish-Russian monitoring Center in Agdam will be suspended, the Ministry of National Defense of Trkiye said, APA reports.

“The process of completing the activity of the Turkish-Russian Joint Monitoring Center, established in the city of Agdam, Azerbaijan, on January 30, 2021, to monitor the ceasefire regime and prevent violations of the law in the Garabagh region through the Memorandum signed between the Republic of Trkiye and the Russian Federation, continues in coordination with the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan,” the information says.

BAKU: Changes have been made to the ‘Commodity nomenclature of foreign economic activity of Azerbaijan, rates of import customs duties and rates of export customs duties”, Trend reports via relevant decision signed by Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov.

The document states that import customs duty will be 15 percent for motorbikes with a piston internal combustion engine with a cylinder capacity of little more than 50 cm3 and bicycles with an electric motor with a maximum speed of more than 50 km/h.

This decision will come into force 30 days from the date of its publication.

Azerbaijan’s police has detained 21 people with meausers conducted against illegal migration, APA reports citing Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan.

Employees of office for combating illegal migration of Main Passport, Registration and Migration Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted measures at different addresses in Baku against foreigners who do not possess documents giving them the right to live in the territory of Azerbaijan.

As a result of measures taken, 21 persons who were citizens of various countries were detained for violating the mentioned law.

During the investigation, it was revealed that those foreign citizens were defrauded with the promise of them to be provided with illegal passage to European countries, especially to Poland, by allegedly using Azerbaijan as a transit. According to the relevant article of the Code of Administrative Offenses, a protocol has been drawn up about them.

Investigation on E.Jamalov, who is suspected of defrauding citizens of foreign coun
tries, are continued.

It was noted that 102 foreign citizens who do not possess documents giving them the right to live in the territory of the country were identified by the police officers with the meausers taken from the early 2024, and relevant measures were taken against them.
