Hungary eyes to take part in reconstruction, restoration of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh


BAKU: Hungary is developing a plan for its participation in the reconstruction and restoration of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said during the 10th session of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the governments of Azerbaijan and Hungary, Trend reports.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan and Hungary are friends and strategic partners, while relations between them are based on values rather than expectations.

‘There are growth rates of trade turnover between our countries. Compared to the corresponding period of 2023, the trade turnover in January-February 2024 increased by 40.49 percent,’ Szijjártó noted.

Speaking about the plan for participation in the reconstruction and restoration of Karabakh, he added that this plan will be completed by November this year, and the industries in which Hungarian companies can participate will be identified.

To note, Baku hosted the 10th session of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between th
e governments of Azerbaijan and Hungary.

The one-on-one meeting was attended by a delegation headed by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and a delegation headed by Azerbaijani Minister of Labor and Social Protection Sahil Babayev. The parties discussed the present status of relations between the two nations and the topics slated for the meeting agenda.

Turkmenistan and UK forge ahead in trade and economic partnership talks


ASHGABAT: Turkmenistan and the UK discussed further development of trade and economic cooperation, Trend reports.

According to an official source, this was discussed during a meeting in Ashgabat city between the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs of the UK, David Cameron.

During the meeting, the sides stressed the expediency of making extensive use of the opportunities of the Turkmen-UK Trade and Industry Council in order to further develop economic cooperation.

The President stressed that Turkmenistan adheres to the legal status of permanent neutrality in its foreign policy, recognized twice by special resolutions of the UN General Assembly, and conducts extensive international cooperation in the interests of ensuring peace, security, and sustainable development throughout the world.

“We attach great importance to the development of relations with foreign countries based on friendship, equality, and mutual respec
t. We consider it necessary to use international law and only diplomatic instruments to resolve challenges and conflicts,” Berdimuhamedov said.

Speaking about trade and economic relations, the sides noted with satisfaction the development of bilateral trade and effective cooperation in such sectors as banking, finance, insurance, chemical industry, and trade.

Meanwhile, David Cameron visited Turkmenistan as part of a diplomatic mission to Central Asia.

One of the main points of the Foreign Minister’s visit is the announcement of the allocation of 50 million pounds for new financing for the development of Central Asia and Mongolia over the next three years.

These investments are aimed at stimulating regional growth, increasing economic sustainability, and developing trade and cooperation between the UK and the countries of Central Asia.

Azerbaijan, US negotiate introduction of risk-based supervision model in banks


BAKU: Azerbaijan and the United States have discussed the introduction of a risk-based supervision model in banks, Chairman of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) Taleh Kazimov wrote on X, Trend reports.

The publication notes that a meeting was held with Deputy Comptroller for Operational Risk Policy of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Kevin Greenfield.

‘During the meeting, we exchanged views on the implementation of the risk-based supervision model in banks, the regulation of innovative services, as well as the importance of modern technology in supervision and regulation,’ the publication reads.

To note, the visit of the Azerbaijani banking mission to the US started on April 23. It is organized by the Association of Banks of Azerbaijan and the US Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

DUSHANBE: Tajikistan and Georgia are soon planning to launch regular direct flights between Dushanbe and Tbilisi, Trend reports.

According to the FLY.TJ travel agency, this initiative has become possible due to the joint efforts and collaboration of the agency, the Somon Air airline, and Easybooking Tajikistan.

It is noted that the new route will not only strengthen the ties between Tajikistan and Georgia but also open up new opportunities for domestic businessmen, business circles of both countries, and travel enthusiasts.

The price, start date of flights, and schedule are yet to be specified.
