Islamophobia is not only against Islamic religion and Muslim society – UN Deputy Secretary-General

“Islam is seen as a religion of peace,” said UN Deputy Secretary-General, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Miguel Ángel Moratinos in his video appeal addressed to an international conference on “Islamophobia as a specific form of racism and discrimination: New Global and transnational challenges” organized by Baku International Multiculturalism Center (BIMC), the Center for International Relations Analysis, and the G20 Interreligious Dialogue Forum, APA reports.

According to him, last year, the UN announced March 15 as the International Day of Combating Islamophobia.

“Islamophobia is not only against the Islamic religion and Muslim society, it is a phobia, it means being against people and human rights. I hope that important messages will be delivered today and tomorrow through the conference regarding respect for Islam, joint struggle against Islamophobia, and the inadmissibility of hatred and discrimination against any religion,” the UN official stressed.

OIC’s former Secretary-General: Islamophobia is a threat against global peace

“Islamophobia is a threat against global peace,” Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, member of Nizami Ganjavi International Center, and former Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation while delivering a speech at the international conference on “Islamophobia as a specific form of racism and discrimination: New Global and transnational challenges” organized by Baku International Multiculturalism Center (BIMC), the Center for International Relations Analysis, and the G20 Interreligious Dialogue Forum.

The former Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation said that when he took this post, one of the serious problems was a negative approach against Islam.

Panel was held in Baku on ‘Islamophobia: Europe and national legislation’-PHOTO

“Islamophobia: Europe and national legislation” plenary session has been held at the international conference on “Islamophobia as a Specific Form of Racism and Discrimination: New Global and Transnational Challenges” dedicated to the International Day of Combating Islamophobia, APA reports.

Speakers discussed the fight against Islamophobia, as well as bringing the said cases to a certain legislative level in European countries at the session.

Prosecutor General submits proposal to bring Zhanybek Abirov to justice

The Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan submitted a proposal to the Parliament on giving consent to bringing deputy Zhanybek Abirov to criminal liability. The supervisory authority informed 24.kg news agency.

The deputy is to be prosecuted under the article «Hooliganism committed by a group of persons with resistance to a representative of the authorities or another person acting as a guardian of public order» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

A mass brawl occurred in Bishkek. Video was posted on social media. The footage shows several people exiting the cafe. Then a fight broke out between them and other men joined it. One of the fighters is MP Zhanybek Abirov. The fight and beating of the guard was reported to the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov. He instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the incident. Despite the fact that the video shows the deputy beating the man, the police have so far detained only other participants of the brawl.

Policeman tries to sell precursors for manufacture of drugs in Kerben

A police officer was detained in Kerben town while trying to sell precursors for the manufacture of drugs. Press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

«On March 10, officers of the Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking detained an employee of the Department of Internal Affairs of Aksy district of Jalal-Abad region, 36-year-old M.A. during sale of previously smuggled precursors. At least 563,700 grams of sulfuric acid were seized,» the statement says.

Earlier, during a controlled purchase operation, the suspect sold 330,950 grams of precursors to officers. The total weight of the seized amounted to 894,650 grams.

The detainee was placed in the pretrial detention center in Uzgen district. The investigation is ongoing.

The signing ceremony of the protocol of the action plan for the development and implementation of simplified transit rules the one-stop-shop principle along the Trans-Caspian International ‘East-West’ Middle Transport Corridor took place in Baku, Trend reports.

The document was signed by Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan Shahin Baghirov, Head of International Cooperation Division of the State Revenue Committee of Kazakhstan Yermek Kozhabergenov, Chairman of the State Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan Samat Isabekov, Head of the Georgian Revenue Service Levan Kakava, Chairman of Uzbekistan’s Customs Committee Akmalkhuja Mavlonov, and Chairman of the Customs Service of Tajikistan Khurshed Karimzoda.
