Liverpool beat Tottenham 4-2 at Anfield to condemn the visitors to a fourth consecutive loss which leaves their hopes of Champions League qualification hanging by a thread, according to Sky Sports.

The Reds were rampant for the opening hour, with Mohamed Salah, back in the side following his touchline spat with Jurgen Klopp against West Ham, heading them in front early on before Andrew Robertson added a second on the stroke of half-time.

Cody Gakpo then nodded Liverpool’s third after the break before Harvey Elliott punished more poor Tottenham defending with a stunning fourth from long range soon afterwards.

Ange Postecoglou’s side rallied to halve the deficit thanks to goals from substitute Richarlison and Heung-Min Son.

But in the end it was another painful afternoon for Spurs, who have lost four Premier League games in a row for the first time in 20 years and remain seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with only three games left to play.

For Liverpool, out of the title race in third place, t
he result at least raises hopes of a positive finish to Klopp’s final campaign in charge.

Baku elected as World Capital of Sport 2026


Azerbaijan’s Baku city has been designated as the World Capital of Sport for the year 2026 by the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES Europe), the organization said in its official letter sent to Azerbaijan on Monday.

In its letter, the ACES Europe hailed the exemplary activity aimed at strengthening the health of the population in Azerbaijan, as well as the existing sports infrastructure in accordance with high standards, and the promotion of sports in the country.

The official presentation of Baku as the World Capital of Sport 2026 is scheduled to be held at the European Parliament in Brussels by late 2025.

Fenerbahce beat Besiktas 2-1 in Istanbul derby


Fenerbahce defeated Besiktas 2-1 in the Istanbul derby of the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday, according to Anadolu Agency.

Besiktas were down to 10 men after Mohamed Al Musrati received a straight red card in the 25th minute.

Al Musrati was shown red for a wild challenge on Fred at Ulker Stadium.

After five minutes, Fenerbahce scored the opening when Michy Batshuayi made a close-range finish, assisted by Dusan Tadic.

Fenerbahce doubled the lead after Irfan Can Kahveci netted a classy left-footed goal in the penalty box. Sebastian Szymanski assisted him in the 69th minute.

Besiktas’ Cenk Tosun came off the bench in the 78th minute to narrow the gap to one in the 82nd minute.

On matchday 34, Fenerbahce are second with 89 points while Besiktas are fifth with 51 points.

Collecting 93 points, Galatasaray are currently the leader of the Turkish Super Lig.

Azerbaijani rowers aim for ‘medal rush’ in Hungarian tournaments


Azerbaijani athletes Diana Dymchenko and Bahman Nasiri will prove their mettle at the 2024 World Rowing European Olympic Qualification Regatta to take place in the city of Szeged, Hungary.

Another member of the team, Ziya Mammadzade, will also test his strength at the 2024 European Rowing Championships.

According to the regulations, rowers to claim the first 3 places in the 2024 European Rowing Championships A-Finals in both men’s and women’s competitions will book a spot for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games.

Both competitions will be held on April 25-28.
