Armenia is ready for everything, but with preconditions – Pashinyan

Armenia is ready for peace agreement with Azerbaijan, reconciliation with Turkey and creation of bilateral commission on border delimitation. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan who answered media questions in Yerevan the day before.

At that time, he made it clear that Armenia has preconditions on all these issues.

“I cannot predict whether we will be able to establish diplomatic relations with Turkey in 2022, for it does not depend on us alone. But it would be very logical if we achieve such a result,” he said adding immediately that “if the process drags on, it may not succeed.”

“We are interested in establishing diplomatic relations without preconditions, and such a possibility exists. The first meeting between special representatives of Armenia and Turkey on normalization of relations took place, and if this dynamic continues, there is a very high probability that Armenia will accept Turkey’s invitation to participate in a diplomatic forum in Antalya,” he said.

When it comes to relations with Azerbaijan, Pashinyan said that Armenia is not against a peace agreement with Azerbaijan; however, the agreement must be drafted and formulated.  “This is a subject of negotiations. Armenia is ready for negotiations,” he said.

According to Pashinyan, Armenia and Azerbaijan ratified documents in parliaments in 1992 recognizing territorial integrity and inviolability of borders within existing borders in the CIS, but many issues and nuances remain unresolved and negotiations are required for this.

“We have passed proposals to Russia and directly to Azerbaijan. We are talking about improving security and stability on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the formation of a commission on border delimitation and demarcation. Discussions are ongoing, and the Armenian side is unwilling to disrupt the process by revealing details,” he said.

Official Baku has not yet commented on Pashinyan’s remarks.
