Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry responds to Armenia

“The statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry dated March 24, which reflects the accusations against Azerbaijan in connection with the alleged escalation of the situation in the region, is another attempt of this country to mislead the international community,” said Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“According to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, the positions and locations in the region are being clarified, there is no reason for any hysteria. The Armenian side is engaged in disinformation by artificially exaggerating the issue.

As for the technical problems in the gas pipelines in the region due to severe weather conditions for several days, Armenia intends to use the situation as a tool for political manipulation.

We would like to remind you that Armenia, which for many years kept the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with a population of more than 400,000 people in a gas blockade, carried out water terror using the Sarsang reservoir for about 30 years, denied the existence of landmine maps that put an end to the life and health of hundreds of people for a long time, concealed information about the fate of about 4,000 Azerbaijanis who went missing in the early 1990s, and now makes baseless accusations against Azerbaijan – this is nothing but the political hypocrisy of this country.

At present, the only way to ensure peace and stability in the region is the full implementation of the provisions of the joint statements, including the complete withdrawal of the remnants of Armenian illegal formations from the region and the normalization of relations on the basis of the principles of international law.

Now is the time to do real work, not political manipulation,” the ministry said.

UN human rights team in Ukraine say there are ‘mass graves’ in Mariupol

The head of the UN human rights team in Ukraine said on Friday that monitors had received increasing information on mass graves in the encircled city of Mariupol, Ukraine, including one that appeared to hold 200 bodies, APA reports citing The Guardian.

“We have got increasing information on mass graves that are there,” Matilda Bogner told journalists by video link from Ukraine, saying some of the evidence came from satellite images.

Reuters report Bogner said that civilian deaths in Ukraine exceeded 1,035, adding that the UN team was probing what appeared to be indiscriminate attacks by both sides in the conflict.

During the call, the UN also said it had received allegations of Russians killing civilians in cars during evacuations, and has documented cases of enforced disappearances of Ukraine officials, some who appear to have been taken hostage.

UNICEF: More than half of Ukraine’s children displaced after one month of war

One month of war, unleashed by Russia against Ukraine, has led to the displacement of 4.3 million children – more than half of the country’s estimated 7.5 million child population, APA reports citing Ukrinform.

As UNICEF informs, this number includes more than 1.8 million children who have crossed into neighboring countries as refugees and 2.5 million who are now internally displaced inside Ukraine.

“The war has caused one of the fastest large-scale displacements of children since World War II. This is a grim milestone that could have lasting consequences for generations to come. Children’s safety, wellbeing and access to essential services are all under threat from non-stop horrific violence,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.

According to OHCHR, 78 children have been killed, and 105 have been injured in Ukraine since the start of the war on 24 February. Yet these figures represent only those reports that the UN has been able to confirm.

“In Ukraine, UNICEF has delivered medical supplies to 49 hospitals in 9 regions – including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Lviv – improving access to healthcare for 400,000 mothers, newborns and children. UNICEF continues to distribute water and hygiene items in communities under siege. In addition, UNICEF is increasing the number of mobile child protection teams working inside acute conflict zones from 22 to 50 and has delivered 63 trucks of lifesaving supplies to support the needs of over 2.2 million people,” reads the statement.

In the coming weeks, UNICEF will start emergency cash transfers to the most vulnerable families and establish child friendly spaces in key locations across the country.
