5.1-magnitude quake hits near Nicobar Islands EMSC

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 hit off the coast of India’s Nicobar Islands, according to the data provided by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), APA reports citing Teletrader.

The quake’s epicenter was registered 450 kilometers south of Port Blair, the largest town and the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The islands were devastated by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which was triggered by a massive earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, but no tsunami warning has been issued following the latest tremor.
