5 employees of Zigh Ship Repair and Construction Plant died of gas poisoning, Prosecutor General’s Office launches investigation-UPDATED

Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan released a statement on poisoning of 5 employees of the plant while repairing the floating shipyard No. 61 of ASCO’s “Zigh” Ship Repair and Construction Plant, APA reports.

It is noted by the Press Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office as a response to received requests that an investigation is conducted in Criminalistics and Information Technologies department of the Prosecutor General’s Office on death of five employees of the plant by gas poisoning while repairing the floating shipyard No. 61 of ASCO’s “Zigh” Ship Repair and Construction Plant.

On June 3, around 17:00, 5 employees of the plant were poisoned by gas while repairing the floating shipyard No. 61 of ASCO’s “Zigh” Ship Repair and Construction Plant, APA reports citing Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company Closed Joint Stock Company (ASCO).

Noted that seeing that there was no sound from the 4 workers working at the floating shipyard, Yolchuyev Namik Ali, who was standing
in line, followed his colleagues into the ballast pump section of the shipyard, but he was also poisoned by gas.

Reported that a special brigade of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan was involved in the area.

The bodies of 5 people – Safaraliyev Tural Shabaddin, Shahbazov Orkhan Zaur, Yolchuyev Namik Ali, Aghayev Teyyub Eyyub, Mammadov Samid Abdulvahab – were removed from the place of the incident.

More detailed information about the causes of the incident will be provided after investigations.
