Qarabag Secure Historic Spot in UEFA Champions League Play-Off Round

Baku: Azerbaijan's football club Qarabag, despite a challenging 6-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield stadium, have successfully secured their place in the UEFA Champions League play-off round. This achievement marks a significant milestone as they become the first club from Azerbaijan to reach this stage of the competition. According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the hosts dominated the match with goals from Alexis Mac Allister, who scored twice, alongside contributions from Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike, and Federico Chiesa. Despite this loss, Qarabag's strong performances in earlier rounds allowed them to accumulate 10 points and finish 22nd in the standings, thereby earning their spot in the play-off round. The team, fondly known as the Aghdam Horses, will discover their next opponent at the official draw ceremony scheduled for tomorrow, January 30, at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
