The Supreme Court returned the case of Abid Gafarov, the head of the Youtube channel “KİM”, who was arrested last year, to the court of appeal, the lawyer Agyl Laij said. Gafarov was sentenced by the decision of the Yasamal District Court to a year in prison on charges of slander and insult (Articles 147 and 148 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan).
In particular, the court found him guilty of “insulting” veterans of the Karabakh war. The Court of Appeal upheld this verdict.
Gafarov denied the accusations and stated that he was being persecuted for political reasons for publicizing the torture of the defendants in the Terter case.
