Baku: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has included Azerbaijan in a regional project focused on smart energy and grid integration, APA-Economics reports. This initiative is part of the second phase of a regional project aimed at accelerating the development of smart energy systems and enhancing grid integration infrastructure.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, ADB has added Azerbaijan to the list of beneficiary countries, which also includes Thailand. The project seeks to increase investment in smart energy systems to facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources into electricity grids. It promotes the use of innovative and advanced technologies, as well as digital solutions, to achieve its goals.

The project's information indicates that while Azerbaijan and Thailand are currently covered under this phase, discussions are ongoing to potentially include other countries. These discussions involve electric mobility and charging infrastructure in Kazakhstan, data centers in Kyrgyzstan, and sustainable energy supply for data centers in Thailand.

The initiative is being implemented through a sovereign financing mechanism in the energy sector. Its objectives include strengthening the integration of renewable energy into the grid and supporting the digitalization of electricity systems. However, at this stage, no technical documents related to the project have been made publicly available.
