Baku: "Azerbaijan Railways" CJSC (ADY), an AZCON Holding company, has taken a significant step in renewing its locomotive fleet by receiving a shipment of seven modern AC50-type freight locomotives from China's CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd., APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, these newly delivered mainline locomotives are equipped with advanced technology and innovative traction systems, renowned for their high traction power and large fuel capacity. This upgrade is poised to enhance the efficiency and safety of handling heavy freight trains, thanks to the inclusion of modern control and safety systems.

The locomotives are designed for a 90-day maintenance interval, ensuring more reliable and uninterrupted operation. The main air reservoir, capable of holding 2,000 liters of compressed air, along with two compressors, facilitates the hauling of longer trains. Additionally, the ability to couple the locomotives in pairs and operate them with a single crew allows for increased freight capacity, thereby improving operational efficiency and maximizing the use of the locomotives.

The AC50 model adheres to the Stage IIIA environmental standards established by the International Union of Railways (UIC), permitting unrestricted use in areas with stringent emissions requirements. These new locomotives are set to be deployed for freight transport along international transport corridors.

As part of its ongoing efforts to renew and expand its locomotive fleet, Azerbaijan Railways is also focusing on enhancing the technical capacity of its rolling stock for both freight and passenger transport. This move aims to provide flexible and safe service in response to growing freight volumes along international routes. Negotiations are currently in progress for the acquisition of 14 additional freight locomotives to further bolster the fleet.
