AIIB to Strengthen Ties with Azerbaijan in Maritime and Aviation Sectors

Baku: The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is set to enhance its partnership with Azerbaijan, focusing on the maritime transport and aviation sectors. Xiaohong Yang, the Director General of AIIB, highlighted the existing good relations between the bank and Azerbaijan in a statement to APA-Economics. She mentioned the joint declaration signed by AIIB's president and the Azerbaijani government, emphasizing the ongoing projects in the transport sector, including railways, the Green Line of the Baku Metro, and ADY's circular railway projects.

According to Azeri-Press News agency, the AIIB plans to broaden its cooperation with Azerbaijan, particularly targeting maritime transport and aviation. Yang pointed out the active collaboration with the Port of Baku and the intention to expand ties in these sectors. Additionally, the partnership extends to the energy sector, focusing on green energy corridors across the Caspian Sea. Yang expressed optimism about the promising nature of the cooperation with Azerbaijan and the expectation of a continued long-term partnership.

Yang further mentioned a recent $180 million depot project for Baku and an upcoming project related to the Baku Metro, estimated at around $700 million. The collaboration with ADY is ongoing, and numerous new projects are anticipated in both the public and private sectors.
