Baku: The detention period of Ali Karimli, chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, has been extended. A motion regarding his detention, originally implemented by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, was reviewed at the Sabail District Court.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the court decided to extend the preventive detention measure imposed on Ali Karimli for an additional four months. He faces charges under Article 278.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which pertains to actions aimed at seizing power by force or violently changing the constitutional order.

Ali Karimli, along with Mammad Ibrahim, a member of the party's Presidium, was questioned at the State Security Service as part of an ongoing investigation. Following searches at their residences, both were transported to the State Security Service for further questioning.

The searches and interrogations at the homes of Karimli and Ibrahim are reportedly connected to the criminal case against former Presidential Administration head Ramiz Mehdiyev. Mehdiyev is being investigated under several charges, including those relating to acts aimed at seizing state power, treason against the state, and the legalization of property obtained through criminal means.
