Baku: Chinese investments and cooperation in new energy are expanding in Azerbaijan, said Lu Mei, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Azerbaijan, at the annual press conference for 2025, APA reports. The ambassador said that investment, economic and technological cooperation between the two countries is dynamically deepening. According to her, Chinese companies are implementing various projects in Azerbaijan in the fields of construction materials production, retail trade, automotive industry and photovoltaic power plants.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the ambassador highlighted that the first 50 electric buses produced at the BYD plant in Azerbaijan have already been delivered. The factory plans to produce 300 electric buses by the end of the year and put them into operation in Baku, Nakhchivan, and Karabakh, expanding ecological transport opportunities for the population.

The diplomat emphasized the rapid development of cooperation in the field of new energy. Several Chinese companies have signed agreements with Azerbaijan on five projects with a total capacity of 1,570 MW, including solar and wind energy. Once fully operational, these projects are expected to double Azerbaijan's renewable energy production capacity. A significant milestone is the planned commissioning of a large-scale wind energy project with a capacity of 240 MW this year, implemented with Chinese participation.

Additionally, the ambassador mentioned plans by Chinese companies to build a 3 GW solar panel production plant in the Alat Free Economic Zone, contributing significantly to the development of Azerbaijan's high-tech manufacturing industry.

Lu Mei also noted strengthened cooperation in transport infrastructure. Between January and November, 351 Trans-Caspian freight trains were sent from China to Azerbaijan, marking a 34 percent increase compared to last year. For the first time, trains have been dispatched from cities such as Jinhua, Yiwu, Beijing, and Shenzhen on the Trans-Caspian route. Chinese products have thus become the largest source of cargo in the Middle Corridor.

The ambassador concluded by stating China's readiness to continue high-level cooperation with Azerbaijan within the framework of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, supporting the country's transformation into a regional transport hub.
