Baku: Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), recently met with Ambassador Tobias Privitelli, Director of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), to discuss potential areas of collaboration.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, during the meeting, Suleymanov elaborated on the objectives of ANAMA and the widespread issue of mines and unexploded ordnance in the liberated territories. The discussion included the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding ‘On Providing Support to Mine Action Activities in the Republic of Azerbaijan,’ signed earlier this year between GICHD and ANAMA.
The conversation aimed at enhancing mine action through knowledge exchange, improved management practices, capacity building, and the introduction of innovative methods. Prospects for collaboration on joint projects were also highlighted during the meeting. Swiss Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Thomas St¤hli, was present at the meeting, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in addressing the challenges posed by landmines.
