Baku: Every group in society has an important role in overall development. In Azerbaijan, inclusive participation is seen as a key condition for building stronger and more sustainable cities, according to Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Anar Guliyev. He made these remarks during the joint opening of the assemblies held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Guliyev emphasized that genuine urban development occurs when every group in society has a voice and a role. He highlighted that this involvement begins with women, who are among the most active and important participants in Azerbaijani society. Azerbaijan has the distinction of being the first country in the Muslim world to grant women the right to vote and be elected in 1918, marking a significant step towards equality and participation.

Today, women occupy senior positions across various sectors in Azerbaijan, including government, parliament, academia, and the private sector. They contribute significantly to the urbanization process as architects, urban planners, engineers, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers. Women are also leading in technology, innovation, and digital transformation, playing a pivotal role in building smarter and more sustainable cities.

Guliyev pointed out that this inclusive approach extends to post-conflict reconstruction efforts, as well as smart city and smart village projects. Women's participation and equal opportunities are considered key priorities in these initiatives.
