Appeal of the Ministry of Emergency Situations to the population regarding the safety of X-ray and computed tomography examinations

The provision of radiation safety by facilities and organizations operating in connection with the use of ionizing radiation sources in the territory of the republic is regularly monitored by the State Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activity of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in order to protect the population from the danger of radiation and their health protection. In this framework, a “special license” is required for the operation of facilities considered as sources of ionizing radiation, since it is related to the relevant type of activity. Such licenses are granted if the requirements for ensuring radiation safety during work with ionizing radiation sources are met. It should be noted that since X-ray and computed tomography devices available in medical facilities are included in such devices, this kind of medical services provided only by health facilities with “special license” are considered safe and reliable.

Taking into account the above, the Ministry of Emergency Situations appeals to the population and recommends to seek X-ray and computed tomography examinations only at the health facilities with appropriate “special license ” in order to ensure radiation safety and health protection. To get acquainted with the list of health facilities granted such licenses go to the official website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (https://www.fhn.gov.az/index.php?aze/news/xeber/1/1/1/1000), or obtain the relevant document proving the existence of the license from the health facility you seek for relevant health services.

Also, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reminds once again that health facilities can use devices with ionizing radiation sources only with “special license” granted in accordance with the legislation. Otherwise, those facilities bear legal responsibility according to the applicable legislation.
