Baku: Victim Vugar Sultanli testified at the ongoing trial at the Baku Military Court, sharing harrowing details of the Tovuz battles. Sultanli reported that Azerbaijani officers, including Major General Polad Hashimov and Colonel Ilgar Mirzayev, were killed on July 14, 2020, due to an artillery strike by the Armenian armed forces.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Sultanli, who suffered injuries during the evacuation, described the persistent challenges faced. He emphasized that Armenian artillery specifically targeted ambulances and medical personnel, an act Sultanli stated is prohibited under international humanitarian law and classified as a war crime.

Sultanli elaborated on the situation, noting that during the evacuation of both fallen and wounded servicemen, the roads were constantly under artillery and mortar fire. This assault disabled two ambulances, resulting in the death of paramedic Ilgar Zeynalli and injuries to the driver and two other paramedics.

The trial is part of a broader legal process addressing Armenian nationals accused of various offenses, including crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, terrorism, aggressive warfare, genocide, and other violations linked to Armenia’s military actions.
