Armenian Deputy PM Discusses Progress and Challenges in Border Delimitation with Azerbaijan

Yerevan: The Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Mher Grigoryan, recently discussed the ongoing border delimitation process with Azerbaijan, expressing confidence in the ratification of necessary regulations by both nations, while also highlighting the absence of discussions on the next areas for delimitation.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Grigoryan explained that the border delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan are moving forward synchronously. “The process of ratification of the regulation of the border delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan is proceeding synchronously. I just don’t know at what phase that process is in Azerbaijan. Along with the signing of the document, it is logical that its approval should be carried out in parallel. I have no doubt that the regulation will be ratified by Azerbaijan,” he stated.

Grigoryan emphasized the importance of the regulations, which are intended to provide a legal framework for the Commission on the Delimitation and Demarcation of
Borders between the two countries. He stressed the necessity of carrying out this process in a consensus environment to avoid potential risks and ensure stability.

The Deputy PM also mentioned the challenges in moving forward with the tripartite commission meetings aimed at unblocking regional issues. “There are fundamental issues on which there should be a consensus. Until there is no consensus, it just makes no sense to continue discussing the details,” Grigoryan remarked.

Furthermore, Grigoryan revealed that there has been no decision on which section of the border will be addressed next in the delimitation process, nor have principles for selecting these areas been established. He underlined the importance of consensus in resolving this issue and reiterated the commitment to not return to areas where the border delimitation process has been completed to avoid complications that could lead to chaos.
