Armenian President Set for Strategic Visit to Turkmenistan to Bolster Bilateral Ties

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan — In a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations, the President of Armenia is scheduled to attend the International Forum of Heads of State and Government in Turkmenistan on October 11, 2024. This visit marks a significant step in enhancing the cooperation between the two nations.

According to Trend News Agency, as reported by Trend News Agency, Armenian Ambassador Ruben Kharazyan highlighted the visit as a crucial opportunity to discuss and expand the bilateral relationship. The ambassador noted that Armenia is keen on bolstering its international stance and developing its relations further within the post-Soviet space and Europe, with Turkmenistan being a key partner in these efforts.

The ambassador detailed the positive trajectory of economic ties between Armenia and Turkmenistan, mentioning that despite the growth, the current level of engagement does not fully satisfy the potential or expectations of either country. “There is significant potential for further development and deepening of cooperation,” he stated. The upcoming visit by the Armenian President is anticipated to address these aspects and explore new avenues for collaboration.

Since 2009, Armenia and Turkmenistan have conducted nine sessions of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, focusing on identifying and advancing joint projects in trade, science, and culture. The 10th anniversary meeting of this commission, scheduled for spring 2025 in Yerevan, is poised to further define and enhance these collaborative efforts.

The ambassador expressed optimism that the forthcoming visit will inject new vigor into the relationship between Armenia and Turkmenistan, opening up new possibilities for partnership.
