Armenian Resident in Khankendi Thwarted in Armed Sabotage Attempt

Khankendi: Today, footage surfaced showing Karen Albertovich Avanesyan, a 1967-born Armenian resident of Khankendi, preparing for an armed sabotage, APA reports. Karen Avanesyan is seen retrieving an assault rifle and grenades from a location where he had hidden them in advance to carry out the provocation. However, thanks to the vigilance of police officers, his plan was foiled.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Avanesyan attempted to take a hidden Kalashnikov rifle, four magazines filled with cartridges, and five grenades and approach the venue of an event in Khankendi, but was intercepted by police officers. At that moment, Avanesyan resisted by throwing three hand grenades and firing from the rifle at the police.

As a result of return fire, Avanesyan was wounded and captured. One police officer was injured during the operation. A criminal case has been initiated jointly by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the State Security Service, and investigative measures are underway. Avanesyan is currently under medical supervision.
