Baku: Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry has accused France of being uninterested in achieving sustainable and tangible peace in the region. “The focus on a smear campaign against Azerbaijan, rather than on Armenia-France relations, by French Ambassador to Armenia Olivier Decottignies, who does not follow elementary diplomatic etiquette rules, is a primary result of the failure of French foreign policy,” stated Aykhan Hajizada, Spokesperson for Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This statement was made in response to local media inquiries about allegations against Azerbaijan made by the French Ambassador in an interview with Armenia’s ‘Hetq’ media outlet.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Hajizada criticized the French Ambassador’s statements, which he described as negatively targeting initiatives aimed at ending occupation and separatism within Azerbaijan’s territory. He pointed out that the Ambassador’s comments included false references to decisions by the International Court of Justice and sup
port for Armenia’s ‘incomplete peace’ proposals. These actions, Hajizada argued, reveal how the French side distorts realities and shows a lack of interest in promoting peace in the region.
Hajizada further noted that France’s actions and provocations, which aim to continue regional escalation, reflect the true nature of France’s intentions and policies during both the conflict and post-conflict periods.
